Film as a method, respect for people as a condition.
Why film, exclusively
Working in black-and-white film is not one aesthetic choice among others: it is a constraint I impose on myself deliberately. A limited number of frames per roll, no immediate check of the image, a development process that takes time: all of this forces me to prepare every shot with care rather than multiplying attempts.
The result is an image built to last, existing as a physical negative that can be printed on paper — an object to be kept and passed on, not just another file among thousands.
Why this site shows no public gallery
This is a question I am often asked, and it deserves a clear answer rather than a vague note at the bottom of a page.
The services offered here — portrait, reportage, memorial reportage — photograph real, identifiable people, or rely on family photographs and documents entrusted to me in confidence. Publishing a photograph on a public website constitutes a disclosure that engages the right to the image of the person or people photographed, protected in Belgium under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and, when an image allows a person to be identified, under the European data protection regulation (GDPR).
In practice, this means I cannot publish a portrait or reportage photograph without the explicit, informed and renewed consent of every person concerned — consent that must remain valid over time, not simply a "yes" given on the day of the session. Systematically asking for this consent, for every image, from every client, while also respecting any later refusal or change of mind, is a burden I prefer to avoid by simply not publishing any gallery by default.
For memorial reportage, the logic is different but reaches the same conclusion: the project often relies on old photographs, names and family histories entrusted to me to carry out the research. These documents remain strictly private and are never kept for other purposes, shown to third parties, or published.
What I offer instead
A portfolio of references can be shown in person, at a first meeting, for portrait and reportage services. Documents and accounts entrusted for a memorial reportage are treated with total confidentiality, without exception. Written testimonials, without photographs, can also be shared with the consent of the clients concerned.
A complementary site, not a competing one
This commercial site is distinct from my personal photographic work on history and memory, also carried out on black-and-white film under the same name — currently presented at another-time.art. Both practices share the same technical rigor and the same sensibility, but serve different purposes: one is an editorial, artistic project with no commercial aim; the other is a service activity, carried out for you and according to your needs.
